$516m in state funding given to world’s largest fish market in Sydney

The New South Wales government has awarded US$516m to Sydney Fish Market, due to be the world’s largest when completed.

Designed by Danish architect 3XN, alongside local firms VN and Aspect Studios, the 3.6ha market will be relocated from Pyrmont to an adjacent wharf in Blackwattle Bay in Sydney Harbour, and is expected to double visitor numbers to 5 million a year when finished in 2024.

The development will contain public promenades, a ferry wharf and 30,000 sq m of outside public space.

The Sydney Fish Market will have a six-star green star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, and will have solar electricity generation.

Gladys Berejiklian, NSW’s premier, said: "The Sydney Fish Market will showcase the very best seafood from along the NSW coast".
