Acciona to develop energy management system for Madrid

25 February 2019 | By GCR Staff | 0 Comments

Spanish infrastructure firm Acciona has been selected by the city of Madrid to increase energy efficiency in 400 public buildings.

Working in public spaces such as schools, offices, sports centres and cultural spaces, the firm will develop a “Municipal Energy Management System” that will track and manage buildings’ energy consumption in real time.

Acciona will use a building control centre to analyse data, and will use machine learning techniques to optimise energy use at each of the facilities. Based on the data gathered, Acciona will be able to introduce autonomous systems and reduce reliance on obsolete and inefficient equipment.

Acciona’s four-year contract is worth €17m.

The project is part of Madrid’s 2030 “Roadmap towards Energy Sustainability”, with the goal of making the city’s buildings self-sufficient by 2030 using zero-emission renewable energy sources.
