Adidas’ Bavarian HQ to be redesigned as star-studded campus

Dutch landscape architect LOLA is to help sportswear firm Adidas to "transform" its German headquarters into a World of Sports campus complete with four star-shaped public spaces and a lake.

According to LOLA, the campus will be a "canvas for creators to program, test and engage in the sports and activities that Adidas supports".

The stars are described as "buildings without a roof, and each of them, with a distinct look and feel, becomes a beacon and way-finder on the campus". Each will be planned and designed around a theme and a set of activities, and they will also host a sports pitch, seating areas and places for bike parking.

The first phase of the work will also include the construction of two buildings: Halftime by COBE Architects of Denmark and Arena by Behnisch Architects of Germany.

Adidas picked the winners after an international design competition to rethink its base in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria.

The southern extension will be completed in 2018, after which work on the northern half will begin.
