Aecom teams up with Toshiba for nuclear decommissioning in Japan

Seeking traction in a market valued at $50bn, Aecom, the US-headquartered global infrastructure firm, and Toshiba have signed an alliance agreement to work together on decommissioning nuclear reactors in Japan.

Aecom said the deal combines its 30 years’ experience in nuclear decommissioning with Toshiba’s history of supporting the nuclear industry.

The pair will offer comprehensive services to Japanese government bodies and commercial utilities who need to take down their reactors and nuclear facilities.

"We are proud to be in an alliance with such a respected company and excited about marketing our collective capabilities to the Japanese government and utilities," said Michael S. Burke, Aecom’s chairman and chief executive officer.

"We have had tremendous success in nuclear decommissioning for the U.S. Department of Energy and the UK’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, as well as commercial clients around the world, and we look forward to supporting the Japanese utilities through this Alliance."
