Aecon appoint new president and chief executive

Canadian contractor Aecon has appointed a new president and chief executive.

Jean-Louis Servranckx will take over from current chief executive John Beck, who will resume his former post of executive chair of the board.

Servranckx takes control during a transitional period for the firm, with the Canadian government recently blocking the CAN$1.5bn sale of Aecon to China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), citing concerns over national security.

John Beck and CCCC both lamented the collapsed deal, with Beck saying Aecon would lose out on large contracts as a result.

While the Canadian government was reviewing the sale, Aecon took the unusual step of pulling out of the $2.1bn Gordie Howe bridge project citing other commitments.

Servranckx has held leadership roles at both Vinci and Eiffage and said: "Having spent my entire career as a builder, I feel a natural fit with Aecon and its long and proud history."

John Beck said: "(Servranckx has) global experience is well suited to Aecon’s many partnerships with international companies and track record of successful projects in countries such as Israel, Ecuador and now Bermuda.

"Jean-Louis has the deep grasp of the construction business that can only come from a lifetime spent on construction sites and in the executive ranks of large construction companies and he brings a clear strategic vision for Aecon’s future growth."
