Arcadis and Grimshaw to work on Peru’s $950m airport expansion

The British practice Grimshaw Architects has won a contract to design a second terminal and an air traffic control tower at the Jorge Chávez International Airport in Callao, 11km from the Peruvian capital of Lima.

Grimshaw will be working with Arcadis, CH2MHill and Ramboll on the $950m development, which is located west of Peru’s main international and domestic airport. The development will measure 7 million m2.

Grimshaw won the contract in competition with consulting engineer Mott MacDonald and architect Pascall + Watson.

Arcadis announced that it was providing design and engineering services on the project last month. The company will provide similar services at Brazil’s first private executive airport.

Grimshaw has recently won contracts for the UK’s High Speed 2 rail link between London and Birmingham and the London Crossrail project.

Designs for the airport expansion are expected to be revealed next year. Construction is expected to start in January 2016 and to complete by 2020.
