Arabtec unit wins $272m MEP contract in Kazakhstan

A subsidiary of Dubai’s rapidly expanding Arabtec Holding has been awarded a $272m mechanical, engineering and plumbing (MEP) contract at the Abu Dhabi Plaza development in Astana, Kazakhstan – which Arabtec is helping to build.

Emirates Falcon Electromechanical Company, or EFECO, will perform MEP works the 500,000-sq-m mixed-used development that comprises 566 residential apartments, 107,000 sq m of commercial office space, a five-star hotel, and a 50,000 sq m retail podium.

The firm was selected by a joint venture group Arabtec and Consolidated Contractors Company, who are currently constructing the plaza under a $1.09bn contract with Aldar Properties.

The contract is the first project outside of the Middle East for the group and comes following the award of a $239m contract for work on Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Midfield Terminal as part of a joint venture between EFECO, BK Gulf, and China State.
