Atkins masterplans new resort in Vietnam

22 May 2013

Atkins has drawn up plans for a new community in Vung Ro Bay, situated on Vietnam’s most easterly point.

With direct links to Tuy Hoa and its airport, Vung Ro is targeted for business visitors and tourism, as well as permanent residents. The plan includes a marina, a resort hotel and luxury villas.

Hakim Khennouchi, Atkins’ lead design director, said: "The masterplan draws its inspiration from the natural beauty of the surroundings and an aspiration to create an integrated walkable community space."

The location is largely mountainous with distinct peaks and highland areas. Low plains located between the uplands have been optimised to include most of the built up development.

Atkins says the masterplan aimed to reduce the development’s impact on the landscape, avoid contamination of the natural watercourses, mitigate flood risk
and use local technologies.

Atkins is now working on concept designs, with construction due to begin in 2014.
