Balfour Beatty unit wins $380m residential project in Hong Kong

A subsidiary of the UK’s largest construction group Balfour Beatty, has been awarded a residential building contract in Hong Kong worth US$380m (HK$3bn).

The residential project will see Gammon Construction develop eight medium rise blocks and four houses with a two-level basement overlooking Tai Po’s Tolo Harbour in northern Hong Kong.

Gammon Construction is a 50:50 joint venture between Balfour Beatty and Jardine Matheson, an Asian-based conglomerate.

Work is taking place on behalf of local real estate company Great Eagle Group.

During peak construction 1,000 people will be working on the project.

Balfour Beatty said: "Gammon will utilise the latest technology including 3D scanning and Building Information Modelling (BIM) to generate and manage vital project data to enhance construction efficiencies".

Thomas Ho, Gammon chief executive, said, "We are delighted to be chosen as the construction partner of Great Eagle Group for this project. The project team is committed to working together with our business partners to deliver the project to the highest quality with our technological expertise and innovative solutions."  

Works are scheduled for completion by the end of 2019.

Gammon’s recent contract wins in Hong Kong include work on a water park and business hub.
