Bam selected for Abu Dhabi port expansion

Dutch contractor Royal Bam Group has won a €24.5m contract to design and build a cruise jetty at Sir Bani Yas Cruise Beach in Abu Dhabi.

The 350m long, 6m wide expansion will allow two vessels to dock at the same time, and allow 5,000 passengers to embark and disembark.

Currently, ships drop anchor a kilometre offshore and those visiting the island travel to the cruise beach on smaller ships.

Noura Rashed Al Dhaheri, Abu Dhabi Ports’ cruise terminal director, said: "Our commitment to its ongoing development will help us significantly increase the total number of visitors to the island, and reduce the time it takes to move them to and from a vessel."

Eric van Zuthem, Bam International’s chairman, said: "The new cruise jetty at Sir Bani Yas Cruise Beach is our first project with Abu Dhabi Ports, and we look forward to commencing a long and successful relationship between our organisations."
