Construction firms from China and Morocco will build Africa’s tallest high-rise tower in Morocco’s capital Rabat.
The joint venture will be set up by China Railway Construction Corp and Morocco’s leading construction company Travaux Generaux de Construction de Casablanca, reports China’s news agency Xinhua, citing Moroccan news site Alyaoum24.com.
Building the 250-m-tall skyscraper will cost $375m.
The 45-storey tower will include offices, hotels and luxury apartments, the news site said.
It will be the focal point of a large-scale development in Rabat’s Bouregreg valley, part of the 2014-2018 Integrated Development Programme dubbed "Rabat, City of Light, Moroccan Cultural Capital", masterplanned by Atkins.
The overall development involves building the Grand Theatre of Rabat, the Arts and Culture House, the National Archives of the Kingdom of Morocco, the Archaeological Museum, a multiplex cinema, a sculpture gallery, a marina, an art hotel, a marina hotel, a mall and a business centre.
