Chinese contractor CNTC has been picked to build Abu-Dhabi developer Imkan’s seven-tower "Pixel" mixed-use scheme, designed by Dutch architect MVRDV and planned for Reem Island in the emirate.
With 525 residential units, the slim, mid-rise towers will surround a pedestrianised plaza and incorporate leisure and commercial spaces.
Completion is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021, reports Mubasher, citing a press release.
Pixel will be set within Reem Island’s new Maker’s District, which has been masterplanned by Danish architect, BIG.
Joining MVRDV in designing Pixel were co-architects Dewan Architects + Engineers, Ramboll Middle East for engineering and project management, and Turner & Townsend for cost control.
CNTC has offices in Shanghai, Hong Kong and India.
Imkan chief executive Walid El-Hindi said: "CNTC is one of the biggest construction companies in China, and their experience combined with our commitment to developing research-based communities, gives us confidence that Pixel’s seven towers will be delivered utilising some of the most innovative and diverse construction solutions in the region."
CNTC vice president Xinrong Xu said: "Through this partnership, CNTC and Imkan will translate our shared foresight for Pixel into reality. Also present at the contract signing were Abu Dhabi Capital Group’s chief executive Abubaker Seddiq Al Khoori, and board member in Royal Strategic Partners LLC, Hamad Abdulqadir Al-Ali.
Work on Pixel starts right away, said the report.
