Chinese firm ventures into drone development for wind turbine inspections

Chinese turbine manufacturer Sany has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chinese drone-maker BriSky Technology to develop unmanned aerial vehicles that can inspect wind turbines.

Sany said it hopes the MoU will allow "greater strides in the research and development of smarter wind turbine units and inspection systems to increase the overall efficiency and safety of wind farm operations".

The firm entered the renewable energy industry in 2008, and set up Sany Heavy Energy Machinery in 2013.

Announcing the MoU, Sany said "drones’ intelligent imaging systems are transforming wind farm operations and maintenance".
