Chinese shopping mall to be placed inside three-storey steel “super crab”

China’s 2016 ban on "bizarre" building designs has not stopped a shopping centre in the city of Jiangsu from taking the shape of a giant mitten crab.

The 75m long, 16m high building is located next to Yangcheng Lake, north of Shanghai, where 2,000 tonnes of the furry-clawed crustacean are fished each year. The building’s exterior is complete, but crab enthusiasts will have to wait until the centre is completed in 2018 to visit.

The stainless steel, three-storey "super crab", which is being developed by the Baxieyuan Management Company, will contain leisure and entertainment facilities, restaurants and stores.
