A consortium featuring two subsidiaries of Australia’s CIMIC Group has been selected for a US$495m contract to deliver the Waikeria Corrections and Treatment Facility in New Zealand.

Pacific Partnerships will lead the consortium and provide financing for 25 years, and CPB Contractors will design and build the prison.
The two will work with New Zealand financier HRL Morrison, electronic services company Honeywell and American facilities provider Cushman & Wakefield.
Operated by the New Zealand Department of Corrections, the facility will accommodate 500 prisoners and be built on the site of the existing Waikeria Prison, in New Zealand’s North Island.
A secure mental health unit will also be built.
CIMIC says the project is part of the New Zealand Government’s programme to "deliver a more effective and humane justice system".

"Utilising our technical and operational expertise and our financial strength we will work in partnership with the Department of Corrections to deliver a high-quality facility of long-term value for New Zealand."
Early construction work on the project has already begun. Completion is due in 2022.
