Construction begins on Nepal’s Pokhara Airport

Work has begun on Nepal’s Pokhara Airport, about 100km west of Katmandu, which currently can accommodate only eight propeller planes at one time.

China’s CAMC Engineering is the lead contractor of the project which will involve work on runways, the terminal and other airport infrastructure.

Pradeep Adhikari, the chief engineer of the project, said: "We will have to wait till 2019 to get overall framework of the airport."

At present 30 engineers and 90 contractors are working on the development, the majority of workers are Nepal nationals.

Work on the project is due to be completed before 2021.
