Dubai has launched an initiative to preserve a number of buildings from the 1960s and 1970s.
According to website Arabian Business, the listed buildings include:
- Al Ras Library, built in 1963
- Dubai Clock Tower, built in 1965 (pictured)
- Al Baraha Hospital, built in 1977
- Dubai World Trade Centre, built in 1979 (pictured)
- Al Khuloud Nursery, built in 1987
More buildings are planned to be added over time.

Gulf News quotes Ahmed Mahmoud, Dubai Architectural Heritage Department director as saying: "Many of these buildings still occupy major positions and perform important functions.
"The buildings have had a great impact on shaping the urban environment and crystallising the architectural character of the 1960s and 1970s."
Dubai is home to 150 skyscrapers, but the World Trade Centre was one of the city’s first.
