Emaar to lure Chinese investors with showrooms in Beijing and Shanghai

Dubai developer Emaar has announced that it will open two offices in China to try and win work and promote its home market to Chinese tourists and investors.

Emaar has begun the design and fit-out of two offices in Beijing and Shanghai, and these will be staffed by "a team of dedicated business development professionals specially recruited from China", according to the company’s press statement.

It adds: "In addition to promoting the UAE and Dubai as a high-growth investment destination, the two Emaar showrooms will showcase the premium lifestyle, shopping and hospitality developments in Dubai, like the Dubai Mall and Address Hotels as well as touristic destinations such as Burj Khalifa and Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo."

The move was first suggested in July to coincide with the historic visit of President Xi Jinping of China to the emirates.

The company is also expanding its Address Hotels + Resorts brand to China. Address branded hotels will open in cities in the country, "building on the familiarity that the brand enjoys among Chinese tourists".

The move follows a decision by Emaar in the summer to dispose of $1.4bn in assets in order to reduce its exposure to Dubai’s slowing property market, and to amass capital for business development.
