Ferrovial scoops $194m Saudi Arabian road contract

A joint venture between Ferrovial subsidiary Ferrovial Agroman and the Saudi firm Al Fahd Contracting has been chosen to upgrade an access road to Riyadh to international motorway standards.

The contract for the Abi Bakr As Siddiq highway was awarded by Ar Riyadh Development Authority and is worth $194m. The development will also include the construction of 10km of six-lane motorway.

The contract is part of the local authorities’ investment programme to change the city’s image and transform urban mobility. The full project includes the construction of three interchanges using viaducts with spans of up to 80m.

More than 300,000 tonnes of tarmac and 100,000m3 of concrete will be needed for the 10km section.

This will be Ferrovial’s first Saudi Arabian contract. It was also awarded its first contract in Brazil this year.
