Ferrovial teams up with Renault to launch ZITY electric car sharing service in Paris

Spanish contractor Ferrovial is to launch an electric car-sharing service in Paris in March, following an agreement with French car-maker Renault, and is looking at expanding beyond these cities, the company said yesterday (25 February).

The ZITY service, which Ferrovial debuted in Madrid in 2017, will make its Parisian debut with a fleet of 500 cars, all of them Renault Zoes. The Spanish version has 658 vehicles covering 96 sq km. The cars will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The French version will replace Renault’s current Moov’in.Paris car-sharing offer, launched with Ada in 2018. It will be available from next month.

Users download a smartphone app that allows them to view the vehicle closest to their position on a map. The cars will be equipped with reverse camera, proximity sensors, GPS, touch screen and cruise control.

The reservation is instantaneous, and the vehicle unlocks via the application. To end the rental, the vehicle must be parked in Paris, on any public square, and locked.

Ferrovial said it hoped the Parisian service could replicate the success of Madrid, where it gained 317,000 users in two years and has covered 1 million kilometres. ZITY Madrid is hoping to break even by the end of this year.

It added that the service could be extended to other cities "in the coming years".
