Floating hotel to be built with “catamaran” apartments28 July 2015 | By Joe Quirke
A floating hotel has been devised by design studio Salt & Water to promote low-impact tourism on inland waterways.
The hotel consists of a central body containing the reception, as well as a restaurant and cafe, an event hall and offices for staff.
It is surrounded by separate apartments that can be accessed by a walkway. Each contains a salon, a galley, a bathroom, a hall with storage space and a sleeping area. The salon can be converted into a bedroom, allowing four people to be accommodated.
It is intended that the whole hotel complex will move slowly through its environment. As it does so, guests can also relax at two separate outdoor locations: the flying bridge and a beach platform from which they can fish, swim and sun bathe.
The design has recently won the Millennium Yacht Design Award, an international competition for yacht designers.
It is not yet known where the project will be located or how much it will cost
