Gammon wins Hong Kong tunnel job

Gammon Construction, 50% owned by Balfour Beatty, was in December awarded a US$425m contract to work on a major section of the new Shatin to Central Link in a joint venture with Kaden Construction.

The contract, awarded by the MTR Corporation Limited, includes the construction of two running tunnels covering 1km of track connecting the existing East Rail Line to the Hung Hom Station and the Hung Hom Station to the future Ho Man Tin Station.

Hong Kong is currently in the midst of a major infrastructure development programme, with 10 major projects totalling US$60bn planned to open up more space for development, speed the flow of goods and people, and create new transport links to the Mainland.

Work on the tunnel contract is due to be completed in 2018.
