Google has laid out fresh plans for the expansion of its California campus after its initial proposals were rejected by Mountain View council in 2015.
The internet company’s revised scheme would repurpose a suburban office park, create affordable housing and preserve natural areas and community features.
Google’s plan is to build 6,600 homes, with a mix of 70% rental and 30% ownership in the region where it has been based for the past 19 years.
Some 20% of the homes would be deemed affordable, and would double the number currently available in the area. The campus would also contain at least 18,580 sq m of ground-floor retail space for cultural uses and small and local businesses.
The project would accommodate sustainable features, including 13 acres of natural space and a six acre egret rookery. If approved, construction would take place between 2023 and 2030.
