Hill International to project manage Egypt’s new $4bn monorail

US consultant Hill International has won a contract to provide project management, design review and implementation supervision for a $4bn monorail project in Egypt.
Hill chief executive Raouf Ghali said Egypt would "set a global standard in executing ambitious infrastructure projects and programs like the Cairo Monorail for many years to come."
The 6th of October City Monorail, which is being developed by the National Authority for Tunnels, will cover almost 100km, making it the longest monorail system in the world.
The first line will extend 57km from East Cairo to the New Administrative Capital. The second line, 42km long, will connect 6th of October City to Giza.Â
These will be the first mass transit links between Greater Cairo, the new capital and 6th of October City.Â
Work includes building 34 stations, maintenance facilities, depots and an Operations Control Centre.Â
The monorail will also intersect with the Cairo metro’s Line 3 as well as Cairo’s high-speed rail network.
The line, first announced in 2017, will use 70 fully automated Bombardier trainsets, each with four cars. The consortium building it includes Bombardier Transportation of Canada, and two Egyptian contractors, Arab Contractors and Orascom Construction.
Hill International has around 2,700 professionals in more than 65 offices worldwide, and provides programme management, project management, construction management and other consulting services to clients in a variety of market sectors.Â
Engineering News-Record recently ranked it as the eighth-largest construction management firm in the US.Â
