Kier begins 2015 with contract wins worth $220m in Gulf

Kier Group has begun the new year with contracts wins worth $220m in Dubai and Saudi Arabia.

The company has been named preferred bidder for a $151m mixed-use development in Dubai, and was chosen for work worth $24m on a leisure park in the city.

Kier has also secured a $45m infrastructure project in Saudi Arabia with a leading Saudi state-owned company in the east of the country.

A spokesperson for Kier said further details as to what these jobs are would be announced in the future.

Haydn Mursell, the firm’s chief executive, said: "These international awards are testimony to the strong relationships that we continue to develop with customers in the Middle East and the breadth of construction capability that we can offer customers in this market."

In the past 12 months Kier has doubled its revenue and secured projects in the Middle East for clients in the finance, leisure and education sectors.

The firm, which is the fourth biggest contractor in the UK, is best known for undertaking general contracting in its domestic market. However, it does have an international presence and is currently working in the Caribbean and Hong Kong as well as the Middle East.

Work on all projects is expected to commence this month.

Kier was recently in talks to buy international services firm Mouchel.
