Mumbai-based contractor Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been awarded a contract to build a $900m supercritical coal-fired power plant in the Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh, central India.Â
The contract includes the design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of two 660MW coal-fired thermal units. It was awarded by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTCP), India’s largest energy conglomerate.Â
Shailendra Roy, a director of Larsen & Toubro, said: "While this EPC package order from a central utility like NTPC has brought prestige to L&T, it also comes with the added responsibility of executing the power project under stringent norms and timelines.
"L&T commenced its EPC power project execution for coal-fired power plants including the manufacture of supercritical boiler-turbine-generators in 2009 and is now capable of delivering energy-efficient and environment friendly thermal power plants to clients across the region.  Â
"Our two 700MW Rajpura supercritical thermal power plant in Punjab, executed on a turnkey basis in record time, has recently completed one year of operations."
