Lend Lease wins $900m Australian highway contract

Lend Lease has announced that it has been awarded a US$900m design-and-build highway contract in Queensland, Australia.

The infrastructure upgrade aims to fix one of the state’s most congested motorways, which links freight hubs such as Brisbane’s port and airport.

The project will include widening an 11km section of the motorway from four to six lanes between Nudgee and Bracken Ridge, an upgrade of the Nudgee Road interchange, and a widening the Deagon Deviation to two lanes in each direction.

Steve McCann, Lend Lease Group’s chief executive (pictured), said: "We are pleased to have been named as the successful tenderer for the Gateway Upgrade North project. We are looking to finalising the project contract with the Queensland government over the coming weeks.

"We remain positive on the pipeline of infrastructure projects in Australia with circa $20bn of work expected to be tendered in the next two years."

The Australian government has committed up to US$720m to the project and the Queensland government US$180m.

Major construction is expected to start later this year and be completed in 2018.
