A $1.3bn scheme for the comprehensive development of a port and rail transport hub in the Russian city of Murmansk has obtained state expert approval.
The project includes construction of several terminals for shipping coal, fertilisers, containers and oil, plus a storage and distribution zone and logistics centre, says a report in IAA PortNews.
The rail component includes the construction of a new Vykhodnoy-Lavna line, 10 railway stations, parks, the reconstruction of four stations and the development of highway infrastructure in Murmansk.

A new deep-water sea hub will provide round-the-year navigation for this port city located on an inlet of the Barents Sea in Russia’s far north west.
Considered the largest city inside the Arctic circle, Murmansk experiences long, cold winters.
The project is part of Russia’s transport development plan from 2010 to 2015.
