New York’s largest modular hotel is half complete

What will become New York’s largest modular hotel is currently half complete.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the 20-storey, 300-room development has been shipped to New York from Poland in 210 pieces.

Modular construction works in this instance by building the core of the building and fitting prefabricated rooms around it.

Construction time and money are saved as less time is used on site, causing fewer problems and disruption when building in busy cities such as New York.

The high-rise hotel will be located at 185 Bowery in the Lower East Side and is being built by Dutch hotel developer CitizenM and Manhattan’s Brack Capital Real Estate, according to website 6sqft.

Polish firm Polcom Modular built the factory-produced units.

The building will measure almost 100,000 square foot, and will include a ground-floor cafe and a rooftop terrace, according to website Yimby. Rooms will measure around 250 square feet each.

The hotel is due to be completed later this year.
