Italian oil and gas contractor Saipem has been awarded roles worth $3.5bn by the Saudi Arabian state oil company Saudi Aramco.

The two engineering, procurement, construction and installation contracts involve work on the Berri and Marjan gas fields, both located in the Arabian Gulf.

Saipem’s expansion of the Berri gas field includes installation of new process units at the  Abu Ali and Khursaniyah oil-gas separation plants.

Work on the Marjan field involves construction of a gas treatment unit and a unit for the recovery of acid gases for sulphur production.

Stefano Cao, Saipem’s chief executive, said: “The awarding of these complex contracts testifies to the evolution of our historic relationship with Saudi Aramco and confirms the strategic positioning of Saipem in the Middle East.

“In the tough context of recent years, Saipem has demonstrated a constant commitment to sustainable economic growth through technological innovation.”
