Salini Impregilo wins $524m reservoir contract in Florida

Lane Construction, the US subsidiary of Italian contractor Salini Impregilo, has won a $524m contract to build the Caloosahatchee West Basin Storage Reservoir in southern Florida.

Working on behalf of the South Florida Water Management District, Lane aims to reduce harmful emissions into the Caloosahatchee Estuary in Hendry County.

Construction on the project includes:

  • A 40 sq km reservoir that can hold 210 million cubic metres of water
  • An earth-fill dam with a 26.2km perimeter
  • A 4.5km long separator dam

The reservoir will capture rainwater run-offs contaminated by local residential and agricultural developments, and during dry periods it will maintain a minimum flow of fresh water to the estuary.

The Caloosahatchee West Basin Storage Reservoir is due to be completed by 2024.

Recently in America, Salini Impregilo has won roles on the Texas bullet train, two contracts worth $400m in North Carolina and Tennessee and a $130m Florida highway job.
