Thyssenkrupp’s Twin lifts picked for Jean Nouvel’s Paris skyscraper

Jean Nouvel 220m-tall Hekla Tower, to be built in Paris’ La Défense district, will be fitted with Thyssenkrupp’s Twin passenger lifts, a design that fits two cabins into one shaft.

The Hekla will contain 66,000 sq m of office space, enough room for 5,800 staff, as well as 2,500 sq m of terrace space and a 250-seat hall. It will be equipped with 12 Twin lifts, which Thyssenkrupp says decreases the amount of space taken up by lifts by 25%.

Peter Walker, Thyssenkrupp’s chief executive, said: "The forward-looking concept of the Twin solution played a decisive role in the development of the project, as it perfectly accommodates the tower’s high standards and demanding transport capacity, without occupying additional floor-space with more elevator shafts."

Construction is due to be completed by 2022.
