Toronto picks its team for $1bn light rail scheme

The Mosaic Transit Group has been chosen to design, build, finance and maintain the US$1bn Finch West Light Rail Transit (FWLRT) project in Toronto.

The decision was made by Canadian transport agency Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario. The members of the Mosaic Group include ACS Infrastructure, Aecon, Dragados Canada and CRH Canada.

The works for the FWLRT project includes:

  • Eleven kilometres of railway between Humber College and the new Finch West Subway Station on the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension
  • Sixteen stops, a terminal stop at Humber College and an underground station at Finch West Subway Station
  • A maintenance and storage facility for light rail vehicles
  • Track works, signaling, communications, and public infrastructure

Phil Verster, Metrolinx’s president, said: "The FWLRT will link the communities of Jamestown, Rexdale and Black Creek with downtown Toronto. This is an important project for these communities and will change how people connect with jobs, friends, and families."

The FWLRT is due to be completed in 2022.
