Turner & Townsend and IGG win Schiphol expansion project

UK consultant Turner & Townsend has partnered with construction costs firm IGG to provide cost management for an expansion to Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.

The joint venture will be responsible for controlling construction costs for a terminal and pier at the Netherlands’ largest airport.

The terminal will be built to the south of Schiphol Plaza and will be connected to the existing airport.

It is expected to serve 14 million passengers a year, bringing the total number that use the airport to more than 70 million.

The flexible pier is expected to be ready for use in late 2019, and the terminal is scheduled for completion in 2023.

Gerard Geurtjens, a project director for the airport, said: "Schiphol needs additional space in order to accommodate and facilitate the growth in both the number of passengers and air transport movements.

"With the development of a new pier and terminal, Schiphol is investing in its capacity and quality, as well as strengthening the airport’s international position."
