The Italian region of Tuscany is to host a "hackathon" to promote sustainable mobility.
The event is being held in partnership with the Italian state rail operator Trenitalia and the University of Siena, and is being sponsored by French engineer Alstom.
A hackathon is conference intended to bring together computer programmers and developers. This will be a a 24-hour marathon and will concentrate on technological innovation in the transport sector.
The event will start on Saturday 30 January at Santa Maria Novella train station, where more than 200 developers will catch a train to Siena University. Here they will relocate to the university library and continue their discussions until Sunday.
Projects will then be presented to the three teams with the best ideas and an awards ceremony will take place.
The prizes for the winning teams will be worth €5,000 ($5,500).
