UK consultants awarded role on Bangladesh railway

UK consultants Rendel and OTB Engineering have been appointed by a UK investment company called DP Rail to provide engineering services for a 240km freight railway in Bangladesh.

The two will work with HR Wallingford, Railway Engineering Associated and BCL Associates.

DP Rail was set up as a special project vehicle to design, finance, build, operate and maintain the rail link between Dhaka and Payra Port.

Rendel and OTB’s implementation studies will start in January 2017 and will last 18 months, during which time they will finalise the route alignment and the costs of building the railway.

The study will includes route selection, surveys, the definition of design criteria and design and cost estimates.

Keith Taylor, project director for Rendel said, "Rendel and our partners are proud to demonstrate our expertise in this geographical region as well as on previous railway projects.

"The combined expertise of our team offers DP Rail a unique resource that has been committed to solving Bangladesh’s transport infrastructure needs for more than 25 years."
