Universal plans three Super Nintendo World theme parks

Universal Studios is planning to build three Super Nintendo Worlds, with the first scheduled to open in Osaka, Japan, in 2020. The second and third will be in the American entertainment capitals of Orlando and Los Angeles.

The parks will be the first to be based on the Nintendo video game universe, which is dominated by Italian plumbers, gorillas and toads.

According to Universal Japan’s press release, Nintendo characters and the worlds they inhabit will be "re-created at the highest level of quality" and "will allow guests to fully immerse themselves and all five senses in the worlds of Nintendo" creating the illusion of "playing inside your favourite games – in real life".

Osaka, in the Kensai region of central Japan, is the second largest metropolitan area in the country.

According to Universal’s statement, Katsuhiro Miyamoto, a professor at Kansai University, has estimated that after the park is opened, Universal Studios Japan will create Â¥6.2 trillion ($57bn) for Kansai and 1.1 million jobs in Japan within a decade of opening.
