Vinci to renovate the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in London

Vinci Construction has been awarded a $73m (£60m) contract to renovate the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, a five-star hotel, located in the Knightsbridge district of west London.

Vinci will renovate all 173 rooms and public areas in the hotel after completing a year-long pre-construction services agreement.

The 12,000 square metre refurbishment will be carried out in two nine-month phases. The first will cover all rooms in the Knightsbridge wing and the second involves the rooms overlooking Hyde Park.

Two large 165 square metre penthouse suites with a view of the park will be built as an extension on the 9th floor roof.

The hotel, which is housed in a building that dates back to 1889, will remain open with reduced inventory throughout the works.

The building will be rehabilitated with "the finest materials", which Vinci will source from "specialist craft providers".

Building information modeling (BIM) was used from the design stage onward to fast-track the survey of the existing hotel and offer collaborative 3D development options. BIM will also be used to optimise the work site.

The project architect is Purcell and interior decoration has been entrusted to Joyce Wang Studio and Thiany Design.
