Vote for the Art of Building picture of the year

The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has announced the 12 finalists for the Art of Building Photographer of the Year competition.

Thousands of entries were judged by a panel which included professional photographers, editors and communicators.

The shortlist includes a home built from old televisions, a skyscraper still under construction and yet soaring above the clouds, and an 18th-century palace in Naples where the staircase mimics two swans.

Working Overtime by Beverly Jay

The photograph which receives the most votes will earn the finalist the title of Art of Building Photographer of the Year and £3,500 in cash.

Saul Townsend, CIOB spokesman, said: “There is a cornucopia of styles and stories in this year’s final. In a world full of high definition colour technology it is how the photographer observes the subject that moves us.

“Voters are in for a visual treat and we hope will be inspired to look at the built environment in a new way and to take part themselves next year.”

Voting opens on 3 December 2018 and closes on 11 January 2019.

The winner is announced on 30 January 2019.
