Wooden “Vertical Village” planned for outskirts of Paris

A 28,300 sq m mixed-use complex has been approved for Rosny-sous-Bois, a commune 10km east of the centre of Paris.

The "Village Vertical", which will be made predominantly of timber, was produced by Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto, along with Nicolas Laisné and Dimitri Roussel of Laisné Roussel.

The team worked with designer Atelier Gorges and urban planners La Compagnie de Phalsbourg and REI Habitat.

The complex contains 5,300 sq m of office space and 17,000 sq m of accommodation, including 5,000 sq m of social housing. The project will be 120m long and will be staggered across various levels, reaching 50m in height at its peak.

At ground floor level, 6,000 sq m will be dedicated community spaces, with a sports centre and restaurant areas.
