World Trade Centre Amsterdam to get another tower

Dutch contractor Ballast Nedam has signed a contract with commercial real estate company CBRE to expand and renovate Amsterdam’s World Trade Centre (WTC).

The centre, which was opened in 1985, currently has nine buildings with 120,000 sq m of office space. Redevelopment work will be carried out on 17,000 sq m of the building, and another tower will be built with a floor area of 32,000 sq m.

The expansion will offer office space for large and small commercial teams, and Ballast Nedam says talks have begun with potential tenants.

Ballast Nedam will work with technical service provider Unica and manager ABC Nova Real Estate. London’s PLP Architecture and Amsterdam’s OZ Architects designed the project.

Jean-Pierre Spierts, director of asset development at CBRE Global Investors: "This project marks the next step of the development of the WTC Amsterdam.

"After completion, the WTC has gained a beautiful and high-end expansion that fits exactly within our strategy to invest in the needs of our users. For example, investing in high quality spaces with high-end facilities."

Work will begin on the expansion this month, and is due to be completed in the second quarter of 2021.
