With a population of more than five million, the capital Riyadh is Saudi Arabia’s biggest city, and its population has more than doubled since 1990.

The King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) Metro Station will serve as a key interchange on the new Riyadh Metro network for Line 1, as well as the terminus of Line 4 and Line 6, said Zaha Hadid Architects.

Other winning firms included Gerber Architekten from Germany, which will design the Olaya Metro Station and Snohetta from Norway, which will design the Downtown Metro Station (Qasr Al Hokm), according to the UK’s Building magazine.
