American data centre company Quality Technology Services (QTS) has announced a $10bn campus in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Developed in partnership with the City of Cedar Rapids, the 612-acre site will have seven data centre buildings in Alliant Energy’s Big Cedar Industrial Center.
It’s estimated it will create 2,000 construction and permanent jobs.
QTS is working with Alliant Energy to reduce the project’s environmental impact with water-free cooling technology and carbon-free energy sources.
Tag Greason and David Robey, QTS’ co-chief executives, said: “As AI continues to transform industries, the need for secure and scalable infrastructure has never been more critical.
“This project reflects Iowa’s leadership in embracing the future of technology, and we’re proud to invest in a state that prioritises innovation, sustainability, and community partnership.”
Google plans to invest $7bn into Iowa data centres, including the Cedar Rapids development, to boost its cloud and AI capabilities, Des Moines Register reports.
