Acciona, Bouygues and John Holland shortlisted for Sydney airport metro contract

Three teams have been shortlisted for a metro extension to western Sydney and the under-construction Western Sydney International Airport.

The trio are:

  • France’s Bouygues Construction
  • A joint venture between John Holland, owned by China Communications Construction Company, and Malaysia’s Gamuda
  • Spanish infrastructure company Acciona

The victor will build 10km of twin tunnels and related station excavation. The development is supported equally by the federal government of Australia and the state government of New South Wales.

When complete, the 23km line will contain six stations, including two in Sydney Airport.

The project will create 14,000 jobs, including 250 positions for apprentices.

The winner of the project is due to be announced in 2021, with construction work beginning in 2023.
