Arabtec and Drake & Scull awarded $87m resort contract in Jordan

A consortium comprising Drake & Scull Engineering (DSE), Arabtec and the Consolidated Contractors Company has won a contract to build a district cooling plant and undertake engineering work for four hotels and 12 villas in the Saraya Aqaba Resort, Jordan. 

The resort is a mixed-use, themed development around a man-made lagoon located on the Gulf of Aqaba. 

Under the terms of the agreement, Drake & Scull Engineering will provide complete mechanical, electrical and plumbing services for two five-star hotels and 12 luxury villas run by Starwood Hotels & Resorts, and two five-star hotels managed by the Dubai-based international hospitality chain Jumeirah Group. Additionally, DSE will undertake the complete design, supply and installation work for a district cooling plant. 

Consolidated Contractors Company are the largest engineering and construction company in the Middle East, and Arabtec are the UAE’s leading construction company. 

DSE has recently been awarded a $600m Suez Canal project, and earlier this year Arabtec won a $40bn contract to build 1 million affordable homes in Egypt.
