UK-headquartered consultancy Atkins has appointed Phil Malem as managing director for its transportation and infrastructure business in the Middle East and Africa.

Malem will head up a new team of 600 employees who will focus on transportation and infrastructure clients.

Simon Moon, Atkins’ chief executive officer, Middle East & Africa said: "Phil has the drive to lead this team and help develop our business in the transportation and infrastructure sector in the Middle East and Africa.

"Having previously lead one of our energy businesses, Phil brings with him a wealth of broad industry experience, strong capabilities in strategic client engagement and successful business leadership."

Malem said: "This is an exciting time to be moving into this part of the business. We have an established rail and metros business, excellent capability within highways, water and power and a vast amount of experience in the growing aviation sector.

"We are developing new ideas for front end technological innovation within both transportation and infrastructure which will help provide our key clients with solutions for their most challenging projects."
