Australia opens the world’s first hangover clinic – just in time for Christmas

‘Tis the season to be trollied, and therefore an apt time of year for Australia to open the world’s first medical centre dedicated to treating people suffering from morning-after symptoms.

The "Hangover Clinic", based in the affluent Surry Hills suburb of eastern Sydney, offers a way for revelers to deal with the characteristic symptoms of ethanol poisoning.

Treatments offered include the US$145 "Resurrection" remedy, featuring an IV drip, oxygen, and an "antioxidant boost", and they last from half an hour to an hour.

As well as hangover cures, the practice offers the "Jetlag Crusher", "Cold Flu Hydration" and "Sports Recovery".

Sydney residents can also buy gift vouchers if they know someone who is likely to be in need of the clinic’s services.

Not everyone is impressed by the idea. Michael Moore, the chief executive of the Public Health Association of Australia, said: "This encourages people to use alcohol in an entirely inappropriate way and it’s something the government should look at very, very carefully."

In England, the equivalent service is a "hangover delivery" that brings analgesics and fast food to your bedside.
