The Australian subsidiary of Belgian contractor Besix has won a US$168m contract to build Barangaroo Station in Sydney’s central business district.
Besix Watpac will build the underground station’s platforms and handle the fit-out, including the entrance, surrounding roads, footpaths, lighting and street furniture.
Jean-Pol Bouharmont, Besix Watpac’s chief executive, said: "Barangaroo Station is a landmark project for Besix Watpac and a milestone in our strategy to combine the best of our global expertise with our proven Australian experience.
"As a multidisciplinary contractor specialising in complex projects, Barangaroo Station represents an ideal opportunity for us to showcase our capability and deliver a special result for Sydney Metro and the people of New South Wales."
Construction is due to begin in October and to finish in 2023.
Barangaroo is one of six metro stations being built as part of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project, which is due to be completed in 2024.
