Canada’s WSP acquires Orbicon in Denmark

In line with its plan to expand in the Nordic countries, Canadian engineering and design group WSP has acquired Orbicon, a 500-person Danish multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm.

Projects Orbicon is working on include the 18-km-long undersea Fehmarnbelt Tunnel proposed to link Denmark to Germany, and the UN City in Copenhagen, which has been awarded with the European Commission’s Green Building Award for New Buildings and LEED’s Platinum-certificate.

Announced earlier this month, the acquisition for an undisclosed sum will strengthen WSP’s expertise in the environment, supply and infrastructure and building sectors, the company said.

"This transaction will enable us to fulfil our strategic ambitions of enhancing our activities in the Nordics region, while solidifying our expertise in the environment sector," said Magnus Meyer, WSP’s president and chief executive in the Nordics.

Per Christensen, Orbicon’s CEO said: "Becoming a member of WSP is great news for our company and employees. By joining WSP, we will significantly strengthen our competitive position across the world, providing us with access to the global network and the expertise of one of the leading firms in our industry."

Orbicon has 435 staff in Denmark, 55 in Sweden, and 20 in the Arctic.
