Construction begins on Abu Dhabi’s Al Maryah mega mall

Developer Gulf Related has announced that construction has begun on Abu Dhabi’s Al Maryah Central mall, located in the emirate’s Al Maryah Island development.

The 2.3 million square foot mall will contain 90 eateries, a 20-screen multiplex, a health-club, a food market, children’s entertainment venues and rooftop parks.

The Dubai-based Al Tayer Group, a fashion and luxury good retailer, has pledged to install more than 20 stores, taking up about a third of the mall’s space. These will include the region’s first edition of the US department store Macy’s and the second Bloomingdale’s.

The "fully financed" retail complex is part of a 3.1 million square foot mixed-use development designed by US-based architect Elkus Manfredi. As well as the shops, it contains luxury residential units and hotel towers.

Karim El Solh, co-managing partner at Gulf Related, said: "This development will reflect the burgeoning vibrancy of Al Maryah Island, complement the lifestyle and culture of Abu Dhabi and secure local, regional and international recognition for the district."

Once construction on the Al Maryah Central mall is completed it will be connected to 15m sq ft of adjacent developments including the Rosewood Abu Dhabi and Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi.

It is due to be completed in Spring 2018.
